A truck carrying carrying dangerous goods caught fire closing State Highway 1 through Putaruru in South Waikato early this morning.
Crews were called to the scene of the fire between MacKenzie Street and Neal Street just after 2am.
Fire and Emergency said the truck was carrying flammable liquids so Hazmat teams were on site.
The fire has been put out but diversions remain in place
Motorists are advised to expect minor delays to complete the detour.
The road was expected to reopen after 9am.
