Three whales have died on Whangaparapara Beach in Great Barrier Island.

Three male Gray's beaked whales were found beached on Monday evening, with one already dead.
The two live whales were refloated by the Department of Conservation, but were found dead on the shore today.
DOC operations manager George Taylor said his staff and local iwi are saddened by the loss.
