A section of State Highway 50 surrounded by a scrub fire in Central Hawke's Bay is expected to be reopened this afternoon.

Thirty firefighters and five helicopters were working to contain the blaze at Tikokino, east of Hastings.
About 3pm, Fire and Emergency said cooler weather and a drop in the wind was helping to slowly get it under control.
They were protecting one home that was evacuated in the morning and said no further properties were at risk.
