The death of a rubbish collection worker on Tuesday was the second such incident involving the same council contractor since March.
A 22-year-old man working for Alpha Refuse Collections was run over by a rubbish truck in Clevedon, south of Auckland. Police say the truck was reversing along the road as two workers walked alongside.
Another of the contractor's workers, Willie Nicholas, was killed by a reversing truck in March in another Manukau suburb.
Alpha Refuse Collections has a long-standing contract with Manukau City Council.
Constable Steve Carey, from the Manukau Serious Crash Unit, says investigators have spoken to the driver, who was very shaken, and but has yet to speak to the company.
Alpha Refuse Collections says it has no comment, but a worker admitted it's a sad time for the company.
