One of the great leaders of the kapa haka renaissance, Taini Morrison of Te Arawa, died on Monday morning.

Her cousin Monty Morrison says she helped to reshape Maori performing arts right across the country.

Waatea News reports family members include her brother Temuera Morrison and her uncle, Sir Howard Morrison.

She will lie in state at Te Arawa's paramount marae in Ohinemutu. Burial services are being planned for Thursday.
