Police are warning motorists to watch out for a large diesel spill on State Highway 1 between Wellsford and Te Hana.

They had multiple calls about it from about 11am today. They said contractors were on their way to clean it up.
Drivers should take extra care, expect delays and avoid the route if possible in the meantime, police said.
