Police have launched an investigation after a body was found in a vacant Ruatoria property over the weekend.
Tairawhiti Police detective senior sergeant Ben Quinn said the body was found on 3 August at the property in the Gisborne region.
The body is believed to have been there for some time and is yet to be identified.
Specialist groups are working to identify the remains as soon as possible.
