Specialist fire investigators are working to establish what caused a fatal fire in a South Auckland boarding house, yesterday evening.
The fire alarm was activated at the Wembley Private Hotel on Moa Street in Ōtāhuhu around 6pm.
The Fire Service says it received multiple 111 calls and reports that someone might be inside.
One of the rooms on the second storey of the boarding house was burning fiercely when firefighters arrived.
They found a body inside.
Two fire investigators are at the scene this morning.
The police are also investigating and say the fire is being treated as unexplained at this stage.
