11:42 am on 4 May 2019

Two people are in hospital after a police chase in Christchurch that ended in a crash in the early hours of this morning.

Police said the vehicle failed to stop about 3.30am.

They said officers chased the car for about 10 minutes before abandoning the pursuit because the car was driving erratically.

However, a few minutes later, they said the car crashed into another police car at the intersection of Pages Road and Rowan Avenue in Aranui.

Police said no officers were injured. Both cars were extensively damaged.

St John said two ambulances attended the crash at 3.40am. Two people were taken to Christchurch Hospital and both are in a moderate condition.

Three people are speaking with police as part of an investigation.
