The police are seeking any witnesses to a fatal crash near Kawerau yesterday afternoon.
A man died when his car crashed into an oncoming vehicle on State Highway 34 just after 5pm.
The police investigating the crash say it appears he crossed the centre line.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries.
The police would like to talk to anyone who saw the crash, or saw a white Nissan station wagon leaving Kawerau about 5pm.
