A 50-year-old man has appeared in the Whanganui District Court charged with the murder of a 41-year-old woman who he knew.

Police found the woman's body at a house on the corner of Victoria Avenue and Ingestre Street last night.
However, court documents reveal she may have been killed last Saturday, or even earlier.
The accused was wearing dark clothing and a black jacket when he appeared before Judge Philip Crayton this afternoon.
He was granted interim name suppression until his next appearance on 9 May.
