Two helicopters have been sent to the scene of a serious two-car crash on State Highway 1, near Moeraki south of Oamaru.

The crash occurred about 8.10pm, about 1km south of the turn-off to Moeraki. The southbound lane is blocked and further closures are likely.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Police and paramedics have been at the scene.
