The police in Invercargill are investigating how a man came to suffer serious head injuries.
There were initial reports of a man being shot with a firearm at a property on Drury Lane in the suburb of Grasmere, yesterday afternoon.
However, police have now confirmed the man was not shot.
He remains in a serious but stable condition in Southland Hospital.
The police have seized a silver Toyota Etoile and are wanting to speak to anyone who may have sighted the car before or after the incident occurred.
