The preschool will have space for up to 100 children and will be located on the top of a seven floor car park building at The Crossing - one of the central city's biggest retail precincts.

Kingsland Development will be in charge of operating the centre once it opens.

Director Hamish Ireland said the central location will be great for parents working in the city.

"A huge benefit we'll be offering is ease of access for parents and caregivers, who can literally drive up to the seventh floor of The Crossing, make use of the ample parking and bring their child into the centre safely," Mr Ireland said.

"Because of its central locality, parents and caregivers can also come and spend time with their children at lunchtime if they wish."

The preschool plans excursions to iconic places in the central city.

"Our location also means small groups of children can visit places like the Christchurch Botanical Gardens and the Margaret Mahy playground - the central city will be their playground."
