A Whangarei man who died at a local caravan park at the weekend had been stabbed in the chest, police say.
The 23-year-old man collapsed after seeking help at Otaika Accommodation Park at about 12.30am on Sunday.
Detective Inspector Dene Begbie said a post-mortem had been carried out and police expected to complete their scene examination tomorrow.
It was not clear where the man who died had been earlier that night and police wanted to hear from anyone who knew more about what happened, Mr Begbie said.
The deceased man was of Maori descent and his body had been taken to his home marae.
Police want to inform all whanau members before releasing the man's name.
