Anaesthetic technicians' strike delays elective surgery

Fifteen elective surgeries at Hawke's Bay Hospital have been postponed due to an anaesthetic technicians strike tomorrow.

A hospital spokesperson said only life-preserving operations would go ahead during the 24 hour strike.

Apex union national secretary Deborah Powell said staff had been trying to negotiate a pay rise and improved working conditions for more than a year.

Anaesthetic technicians in Invercargill will walk off the job for 24 hours on Thursday.
