Popular Wanaka walking trail Roys Peak Track will be closed from Monday for more than a month.
The track is closed each year for lambing from 1 October.
More than 72,000 people have hiked the track in the past year - a 12 percent increase from the previous year.
The Department of Conservation track crosses private land before climbing to the 1500 metre summit overlooking Lake Wanaka.
DOC said visitors should respect the closure as lambs were easily mis-mothered when people came between mother and lamb.
The track will reopen in early November.
