A seriously injured man is being transported to Dunedin Hospital following an avalanche on Ben Lomond near Queenstown.
The man was initially flown to Queenstown Lakes Hospital by rescue helicopter about one o'clock this afternoon.
But, St John spokesperson, Gerard Campbell, said the man was being transferred to Dunedin due to his injuries.
He confirmed a helicopter and ambulance were initially sent after receiving a call just after 11am.
The avalanche was believed to have occurred behind the gondola at the peak where there was a popular tramping track to the summit, he said.
