A 47-year-old Auckland woman has been accused of charging for immigration advice without a license.

Hanfang Liu, also known as Helen Liu, has been charged with being paid by seven people for immigration advice on student, visitor and work visa applications.

She is due back in court in May.

Unlicensed immigration advisers found guilty of breaking the law can be jailed for a maximum of seven years and face fines of up to a $100,000.

Immigration Advisers Authority registrar Catherine Albiston said her organisation encourages everyone seeking immigration advice to check if their advisor holds a licence.
