A man has died after falling off his jet ski in the mouth of the Waimakariri River just north of Christchurch.

Emergency Services were called to Kairaki Beach shortly after 1pm.
The police said local surf lifesavers and the coastguard tried to help the man.
He was pulled from the water by helicopter and taken to hospital, but he died a short time later.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
