Armed police are searching for Rollie James Heke, 36, who has been on the run after a shootout with police on the outskirts of Morrinsville on Sunday morning.

A four hour siege of a house in the town failed to find any trace of him last night.

Police confirmed Mr Heke has been at large for almost a year since he cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet last September.

They warned that anyone helping him avoid arrest could face prosecution and reiterated that the 36-year-old was believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
