Frederick Hayward, known as Rick, was last seen leaving his Hamilton East home and heading to Raglan on 2 September 2013.
Police recently put out a fresh appeal for help, after revealing the 67-year-old may have been the victim of a hit and run.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders said police now had an identikit image of a man they believed could help.
He is 172 centimetres tall, of medium build, of unkempt appearance, with blonde hair with a balding or receding hairline.
Police are also wanting to talk to anyone who may have seen a black or dark-coloured Nissan Terrano on Old Mountain Rd in Raglan, near the Karamu track on or around Mr Hayward's disappearance.
