A temporary village in Kaikōura for 300 workers repairing the highway and rail line is expected to fill up in just six week.
The North Canterbury alliance, which includes the Transport Agency and KiwiRail, says to get the corridor re-open by the end of the year it brought in 75 pre-fabricated units for workers.
They began moving into the accommodation, west of the township, three weeks ago.

The rest are expected to be occupied in the next three weeks.
Construction worker Paul Costello said he stayed at the village last night.
"First night last night, it's good it's a home away from home, TV, bed, fridge, shower, toilet in the accommodation so it's real good."
