Police have arrested two people after a Christchurch woman followed a man down the street, filming him after he walked out of her property carrying belongings.

When Marney, who has asked for only her first named to be used, returned to her Avonhead home with her young children on Friday afternoon she spotted a stranger walking out with some belongings.

She captured what happened next on video as she followed the man down the street; her four-year-old can be heard asking if she needs some help yelling at the man.

"I can be quite feisty, especially if it concerns my kids and home," she said afterwards.

She can be heard yelling on the video: "I've got you on camera. Drop my stuff. All of it ... what else have you got?"

His, cowering, response: "I'm sorry, I've left everything behind. Please forgive us."

"No, I'm not forgiving you," she says.

Police confirmed this afternoon that a man, 44, and a woman, 36, have been charged with burglary and would appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.

The film Marney provided police helped them track down the accused, they said.

She said she was pleased they had been arrested.
