A body found in a stormwater drain in South Auckland was that of a teenage girl, police say.
They said locals in Mangere saw the 17-year-old before she fell yesterday afternoon.
Police believed it was a tragic accident and had offered families and friends their deepest sympathies.
The matter has now been referred to a Coroner to determine the exact cause of death.
