Yesterday, the police released 13 hours of footage from inside the mine, part of which showed a robot and two workers inside its access tunnel.

The victim's families say the video had never been shown to them, and it proves the entry tunnel is safe to search.

Anna osborne, a Pike River widow, said the families are expecting to receive footage and other documents relating to the mine from the police this month, through an Official Information Act request.

She said they would compare the material with information that had already been leaked to them.
