A man has been arrested and charged over a hoax bomb threat made to a Whangarei rest home.
The police said 29 elderly residents of the Shalom Rest Home had to be evacuated on Saturday, after a call was received claiming there was a bomb under the property.
The property was searched and no bomb was found.
The police said a 50-year-old man was arrested late yesterday afternoon and charged with threatening to cause harm.
The man was expected to appear in the Whangarei District Court this morning.
