Myra William said nothing as she was led into the Denpasar Court yesterday for the first day of her trial, in which she faces charges of drug trafficking and possession.

Prosecutors said the 27-year-old, who flew into Indonesia from Australia on 31 August, began "babbling" when asked to queue for her travel documents.

She was then taken to a waiting room.

Later, when she rose from her seat to speak to a customs officer, a plastic pouch containing crystals fell out of her pocket.

It is alleged 0.43 grams of methamphetamine, or P, was inside.

Ms William's lawyer Poppy Eunike has asked for a lesser sentence because her client is a drug user.

Ms William said last year she was on a 'bender' when she was arrested.

Ms William is due to return to court at the end of the month.
