Sluggish ticket sales show interest in the Wellington Sevens is waning and the event should have been re-imagined years ago, a city councillor says.

The two-day event will be held in a fortnight's time but for the second year in a row, sales are slow.
Exact ticket figures were not available, but sales were reportedly higher than they were at this point last year.
However, that benchmark was not set high, as the stadium was less than half-full on both days of the tournament last year.
During the event's heyday, tickets used to sell out within minutes.
Wellington City Council sport and recreation committee chair Paul Eagle said it was time to look at how to improve the event.
"This event is 17-years-old... In hindsight, we should've put in place a mechanism to evolve the event into something different," Mr Eagle said.
"We've got two more years to run on this so we need to put some thinking into making sure the last two years will be great."
New Zealand Rugby confirmed Wellington as the host for another three years last May, after an extensive review.
