Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) said, while small pockets of Watts Peninsula might be sold and developed into housing, the vast majority would probably be converted into a public reserve.

LINZ would soon become the sole owner of the land, which was on the Miramar Peninsula, after Cabinet approved a handover from the New Zealand Defence Force.

It was reported LINZ was considering selling the land, which contained culturally significant Māori and wartime sites.

LINZ would present to Cabinet next year as to how this might happen, and who would manage the reserve once it was established.
