A person has died in a car crash in Clarks Beach, south-west of Auckland.
The crash happened about 5pm today.
Police said Clarks Beach Road was closed and diversions were in place.
Boy dies after car hits tree
An 11-year-old boy has died and six other children are in hospital after a car crashed into a tree in Waikato.
One of the children is in a critical condition.
The car hit a tree in the town of Ngāruawāhia about 6.30pm yesterday.
Police said it was too early to say what caused the crash and who was driving.
Those in the car were from four families. Many were related, either as siblings or cousins, police said.
They appealed for sightings of the white Toyota Wish in the hour before the crash.
The Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
A Waikato Hospital spokesperson said the injured children were aged between 9 and 15 years old.
A 15-year-old girl was in a high-dependency ward, another boy was seriously injured, and four others aged between 11 and 14 were in a stable condition in a general ward.
