No serious injuries in Otago helicopter crash

5:56 pm on 12 September 2016

A helicopter with six people on board has crashed near Arrowtown in Otago, but no one is thought to be seriously injured.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash just after 3pm today.

Police said the helicopter, which was owned by The Helicopter Line, crashed on Mt Sale, about 6km east of Arrowtown.

The Helicopter Line chief executive Jeff Staniland said six people, including the pilot, were on board the scenic flight, and one person received minor leg injuries.

"The helicopter's landed on Mount Sale, which is in the Crown Range above Arrowtown and, on landing, has rolled over on its side.

"We don't know the cause, but of course landing on snow, we suspect it may be something to do with the snow."

Mr Staniland said there would be an internal investigation, and well as one by the Transport Accident Investigation Commission.
