Beneficiary payments delayed by IT failure

Some beneficiary payments - including emergency funding - have been delayed due to an IT failure at the Ministry of Social Development.

It has also led to some beneficiaries not being paid their full entitlements.

A new system rolled out on Monday morning could not cope with the number of people trying to access it.

Social Development Minister Anne Tolley said the system was back working at 90 percent and the Ministry expected the problem to be resolved soon.

"Everyone has been paid, but where they might have made some adjustments to their hours with seasonal work etcetera, some of that might not have gone through this week," Ms Tolley said.

"It's a capacity problem, so just the number of users who can use the system."

Ministry of Social Development deputy chief executive service delivery Ruth Bound said people who called their contact centre or visited their offices may have to wait longer than usual.

"I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause some people," said Ms Bound.
