A family-owned Māori business has bought the food distribution firm Yellow Brick Road.

The business - which focuses on sourcing and exporting sustainable and ethical produce - will be run by Kono NZ, the food arm of Wakatū Incorporation.

Kono NZ's new chief executive is Rachel Taulelei, who founded Yellow Brick Road. She said it was a privilege to lead an organisation whose values were based on custodianship or kaitiakitanga.

Wakatū Incorporation represents 4000 shareholders who affiliate to four hapu at the top of the South Island.
