Nelson water supply restored after storm damage

The water supply system in Nelson was returning to full operation on Monday following major damage caused by a storm last week.

Engineers have completed repairs to the city's main water supply pipeline, which was broken in three places last Wednesday by falling trees.

Nelson households were asked to drastically reduce water use while a temporary supply was in operation, and more than 1,000 homes were without water last Thursday night.

Nelson City Council's technical services manager, Alec Louverdis, said on Saturday that a storage tank had lost its roof during the storm, adding to water supply problems.

The council expected the reticulation system to be fully operational by midday on Monday.
