4:56 pm on 29 July 2008

A teenager has appeared in Christchurch District Court after an attack in which the victim lost an eye.

Brent Lamb, 18, was arrested on Monday and charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded on bail to appear in court again on 12 August.

Bail conditions included a curfew between the hours of 7pm and 7am, no alcohol and no associating with people who witnessed the attack.

Police describe the attack on 20 July as cowardly and unprovoked.

The victim, 19, was beaten so badly that he was admitted to hospital and had an eye removed as a result of his injuries.
