Bayfield School in Herne Bay was closed for about two weeks in May because parents were concerned asbestos dust had spread from a demolition site on the grounds.

A parent, Brett Archer, said he took his own samples and sent them to a laboratory for testing.

He said some came back positive for asbestos, and he alerted WorkSafe.

"We just noticed some pretty unsafe and quite strange practises on site so we raised concerns," he said.

"We only really got traction after I took tests and sent them off to a lab, had them tested, they came back positive and Worksafe were very pro-active and turned up at the site within a couple of hours and shut it down."

WorkSafe would not disclose the name of the demolition company involved.
