Sex offender doesn't want parole

A sex offender who abused two girls under the age of 12 has told the Parole Board he is not ready to be released.

Leslie James Young, who is 63, is serving a three-year sentence after being convicted of seven sex abuse charges last year, including indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 12 about 40 years ago.

The board declined parole today, saying he is an untreated sex offender.

At the hearing at Rolleston Prison in Christchurch, Young said he could not express how sorry he was for the pain he caused his two victims.

He said he wanted to finish the sex offender treatment programme, Kia Marama, to help him through the process of why he offended.

Judge Michael Crosbie told Young his victims said that he ruined their lives.
