Cantabrians might have to wait longer than expected for a venue large enough to hold top tier test match rugby in Christchurch.
Initially a new stadium to replace the one damaged in the earthquakes was due to be completed by 2017.
But the trust running the temporary 17,000 seat stadium at Addington, has suggested a permanent replacement capable of holding 40,000 fans may not be built until 2022.
Trust chair Jim Anderton told the Christchurch City Council the temporary facility needed more money to stay open another seven years, the time he said it could take to build a new stadium.
