A police spokesperson said Michael Harris, of Kaitaia, now faced 49 charges relating to 23 people. As well, the police were not ruling out more charges.

Mr Harris is charged with 12 counts of aggravated wounding, with the police alleging victims were drugged with an intent to commit further offences such as indecent assault.

The Main Street Lodge owner also faces 19 charges of indecent assault, and 18 of making or possessing intimate visual recordings.

The police had recovered more images and had had excellent responses to their inquiries overseas, the spokesperson said.

Bail was declined for Mr Harris when he appeared in the Kaitaia District Court last week.
