Another case of measles in Auckland

6:10 pm on 28 February 2014

The Auckland Public Health Service is urging people to make sure they have had their measles immunisation, while the city is dealing with an outbreak.

A passenger on Malaysian Airlines flight MH0131, which arrived from Kuala Lumpur last Thursday has come down with the virus and about 100 other passengers are being contacted.

A measles outbreak started at the end of last year in Auckland and Medical Officer of Health, Catherine Jackson, says it's a good time to make sure you're immunised.

She says the best way to protect yourself from measles is to ensure you have had two measles injections.

Dr Jackson says the measles immunisation schedule has changed over the last 20 years which means that some people may not have had two doses of measles injections, even if they have been for all their scheduled immunisation visits.

She says there are now 41 known measles cases in Auckland.
