Raetihi residents now have running water for showers and laundry as work continues on restoring the town's water supply.
The water supply has been out for two weeks since diesel spilled into the stream supplying water.
Whanganui District Health Board's medical officer of health, Patrick O'Connor, says Ruapehu District Council is still working on making sure the water is safe for drinking.
Dr O'Connor says the council will make a decision on the town's drinking water after final test results are received early next week.
The usual source, the Makotuku stream, was contaminated by thousands of litres of diesel leaking from a tank at the Turoa skifield in the Tongariro National Park last month.
The Ruapehu District Council has been using water from the Makara stream to clean out the town water pipes and residents have been able to flush their toilets.
The MidCentral District Health Board has also been testing the stream's water quality to see if it could be used as a main supply for the small town.
The board's drinking water assessor, Peter Wood, says people can use the water to shower and wash clothing, and a decision on whether it is safe to drink will be made on Tuesday.
