Principals in east Christchurch say they are relieved a decision has finally been made about the future of their schools.
Eight schools had been waiting to learn their fate in the restructuring that followed the Canterbury earthquakes.
They were told on Wednesday that four of them - Aranui, Avondale and Wainoni schools and Aranui High School will combine on a new $41 million campus that will accommodate pupils from entrants to school leavers.
Central New Brighton, Freeville and North New Brighton schools will merge on the North New Brighton site.
Chisnallwood Intermediate will stay open on its current site pending a review in 2020.
Central New Brighton principal Toni Burnside says a larger school roll will mean more opportunities for students.
Aranui School principal Mike Allen says the decision is no surprise and he is relieved to finally have some certainty.
