With dry weather predicted over the next few weeks, Whangarei District Council has issued strict fire restrictions.
The restriction applies to the Whangarei and Kaipara districts and bans all open fires, including fireworks.
The council has also issued new conditions for use of barbecues, spits, hangi and umu.
It requires a pressurised supply of water and that the fire is no larger than two metres.
