NZ beer not on tap at offshore posts

New Zealand beer brands are not in evidence at almost half the country's embassies, high commissions and consulates throughout the world.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has detailed what beers were on offer at 51 locations from 2010 to 2012.

Twenty-three diplomatic posts did not serve New Zealand beer at all in the three-year period.

MFAT said consumption of beer is low in comparison to wine in some places, so it would not be cost-effective to send small quantities of beer.

In Niue, bottled beer cannot be imported, so only cans are available and served.

Diplomatic posts in Apia, Canberra and Washington serve a number of brands from New Zealand.
