Magic netballers acclaimed in street parade

7:30 pm on 26 July 2012

The champion netballers of Waikato and Bay of Plenty paraded through Tauranga on Thursday, soaking up the sort of public acclaim usually reserved for men in top rugby teams.

The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic became the first New Zealand side to win the trans-Tasman netball competition when they came from behind to beat the Melbourne Vixens in Melbourne last weekend.

About 500 people, half of them schoolchildren, lined Devonport Road and the Strand to catch a glimpse of the winning team.

Immediately after the street parade, team members were given certificates and chocolate.

They then went on to Hamilton for another event.
