Woman swept away by stream noted botanist

A woman who died in a flooded stream on Mt Taranaki was a well-known ecologist and botanist from Dunedin.

Diane May Campbell-Hunt, 56, a mother of four, was swept away while tramping with a daughter, aged 17, in Egmont National Park at about 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Her body was found at 6pm. She died in the Kaupokonui River near Dawson Falls.

Ms Campbell-Hunt was awarded $96,987 in a Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarship in August 2006.
