Paralympics NZ to review performance at Games

3:25 pm on 10 September 2012

Paralympics New Zealand says it may cut funding for some sports that did not perform to expectations at the London Games.

The organisation will review the team's performance and report to its funder, High Performance Sport New Zealand, later this year.

New Zealand won all 17 of its medals in swimming, cycling and shooting, despite also having competitors in athletics, equestrian, rowing and sailing.

Paralympics New Zealand chief executive Fiona Allan says it always wants to send athletes who bring home medals or at least finish in the top six.

Ms Allan says there are other Paralympic sports that New Zealand could take part in and consideration of those will be part of planning for the next Games in Brazil in 2016.

The London Paralympics finished on Sunday.
