New waste bylaws set for approval in Wairarapa are part of a Wellington regional campaign to tackle three major waste causes: events, construction, and junk mail.

A committee from the three Wairarapa district councils will deliberate the new rules in Carterton tomorrow.
Minor changes have been made to the paper to be debated at Carterton Events Centre.
The amendments come after 18 submissions from Wairarapa residents. Two groups spoke at December's hearings, including a deputation from Masterton's world-famous Golden Shears shearing event.
Penalties for breaking the laws range from warnings, to a maximum penalty of $30,000 under the Litter Act.
Councils across the Wellington region are enforcing similar new laws.
A similar range of measures came into force in Kāpiti Coast on 1 January.
Masterton, Carterton, and South Wairarapa councils resolved to 11 recommendations at their separate meetings in October.
Masterton councillor Frazer Mailman chairs the working group.
The bylaws will be enforced from February once confirmed.
Each council will individually regulate and enforce the bylaw within its own district.
