New Zealand swimmers won four medals at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

Glenn Snyders won silver in the 50-metre breastroke, making up for a sixth place in the 100-metre event earlier in the week.

Daniel Bell, 20, also won silver in the 100-metre backstroke in a time of 54-point-43 seconds, which was marginally slower than his qualifying time.

Gareth Kean finished fifth in the same final.

Hayley Palmer finished third in the 50-metre freestyle event, and then won another bronze medal with the 4x100-metre freestyle relay team, after the team was promoted following the disqualification of the Canadian team.

Melissa Ingram, who claimed the Commonwealth Games record in qualifying for the final of the women's 200-metre backstoke, finished seventh in the final, losing her Games record in the process.

Women's 400-metre freestyle swimmer Lauren Boyle was also the fastest qualifier in her event. But despite setting a national record with her time of 4 minutes 9.45 seconds, she was fifth in the final.

Emily Thomas finished seventh in the women's 50m backstroke in a time of 29.02s.
